Beale Air Force Base Open House
|
I attended the Beale Air Force Base Open House with my father, Richard Lockett, on May 31, 1980. The displays featured the Lockheed SR-71A Blckbird, Lockheed U-2R, Boeing B-52D Stratofortress, Lockheed F-104G Starfighter, Repulic F-105G Thunderchief, Fairchild-Republic A-10A Thunderbolt II, McDonnell-Douglas F-15B Eagle, and General Dynamics F-16A Faighting Falcon. Vintage aircraft included a Douglas B-23 Dragon, Lockheed P-38M Lightning, North American P-51H Mustang, Grumman TBM Avenger, Hawker Sea Fury, Vought F4U Corsair, Grumman F7F-3 Tigercat, and Douglas C-47 Skytrain. Flying demonstratinos included a Lockheed SR-71A Blckbird and Lockheed U-2R.
Edwards Air Force Base Open House

I attended the Edwards Air Force Base Open House with my father, Richard Lockett, on May 19, 1970. The displays featured the Martin Marietta X-24A lifting body, the Boeing NB-52B Stratofortress that had launched the X-15s, a Lockheed YF-12A Blckbird, a General Dynamics F-111A, a Bell AH-1G Cobra, and a Lockheed C-5A Galaxy. Flying demonstratinos included a Lockheed C-130E Hercules cargo drop, a Boeing B-52C Stratofortress, a Lockheed YF-12A Blckbird, a Lockheed U-2 and a Lockheed C-5A Galaxy.

I attended the Luke Air Force Base Airshow with my father, Richard Lockett, in January 1970. Back then the the Thunderbirds were flying McDonnell-Douglas F-4 Phantom IIs. These are pictures that were taken by my father at the airshow.

Edwards Air Force Base Open House

My father, Richard Lockett, attended the Edwards Air Force Base Open House in 1959, 1960, and 1961. The North American X-15 rocket planes were making their initial public appearances. Bare metal and Day-Glo was featured on many of the airplanes.
Davis-Monthan Air Force Base

My father, Richard Lockett, and I were escorted on a tour of the Military Aircraft Storage and Disposition Center (MASDC) at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base on November 12, 1973. Before the tour we visited the scrap yards south f the base. After the tour we took pictures of airplnaes in the landing pattern.

I attended the Luke Air Force Base Airshow with my father, Richard Lockett, on February 5, 1966. Back then the Air Force flew large formation fly bys and the Thunderbirds were flying North American F-100 Super Sabres. These are pictures that were taken by my father at the airshow.

The Boeing 777 is a twin-engine, wide-body airliner. The Boeing 777-200 prototype made its maiden flight on June 12, 1994. The Boeing 777-300 made its maiden flight on October 16, 1997. The Boeing 777-200 is 199 feet 11 inches long and has a wing span of 209 feet 1 inch. The Boeing 777-300 is 242 feet 4 inch long and has a wing span of 209 feet 1 inch. The 777-300 Extended Range and 777-200 Long Range have a wing span of 212 feet 7 inches.. The Boeing 777-300ER made its maiden flight on February 24, 2003.
Boeing 747 Classic |
The Boeing 747 is a four-engine, wide-body airliner. The Boeing 747 prototype made its maiden flight on February 9, 1969. The Boeing 747-100 and 200 are 231 feet 10 inches long and has a wing span of 195 feet 8 inches. The long range 747SP variant is 184 feet 9 inches long. The 747SP first flew on July 4, 1975. The 747-100 was equipped with four Pratt and Whitney JT9D-3 or JT9D-7 turbofans ranging from 43,500 pounds to 47,000 pounds thrust each. Two classic 747s wee modified to carry and launch Space Shuttles. Some are used as engine testbeds. One served as the prototype of a fire fighting aerial tanker.

President Trump arrived at Phoenix Sky Harbor aboard Boeing VC-25A 92-9000 on October 18, 2018. He visited Luke Air Force ase and Phoenix-Mesa Gateway on October 19. He departed from Phoenix Sky Harbo aboard a VC-32A because the runway at his destination, Elko, Nevada is too shart for the VC-25A. VC-25A 92-9000 departed a short while after Trump's flight.

The Boeing 747-400 is a four-engine, wide-body derivative of the classic 747. The Boeing 747-400 made its maiden flight on April 29, 1988. The Boeing 747-400 is 231 feet 10 inches long, the same as the classic 747, and has a wing span of 211 feet 5 inches, 16 feet more than the classic 747. The upper deck is 23 feet 4 inches longer than on the classic 747.

The Airbus A340 is a four-engine, wide-body derivative of the A300. The A340-300 made its maiden flight on October 21, 1991. The A340-300 is 209 feet long and has a wing span of 198 feet. The A340-200 made its maiden flight on August 13, 1997. It has the same wing span as the A340-300 and is 195 feet long. The A340-600 made its maiden flight on April 23, 2001. The A340-600 is 247 feet long and has a wing span of 208 feet. The A340-500 made its maiden flight on February 11, 2002. It has the same wing span as the A340-600 and is 223 feet long.

The Airbus A330 is a twin-engine, wide-body derivative of the A300. The A330-300 made its maiden flight on November 2, 1992. The A330-300 is 208 feet 10 inches long and has a wing span of 197 feet 10 inches. The A330-200 made its maiden flight on August 13, 1997. It has the same wing span as the A330-300 and is 193 feet long. It also has a taller vertical stabilizer.

I visited Sky harbor in the morning of August 25 to photograph Southwest's Arizona One 737, only to discover that its departure had been postponed to the following morning. Shortly before noon, I returned to the airport to photograph anAtlas Air 747 and Alaska's Salmon Thirty Salmon. Unfortunately the 747 took off as the Salmon Thirty Salmon landed on the far side of the airport. I also caught a Southwest 737-8 Max and a UPS A300.

In the afternoon, I attempted to photogaph Southwest's Shark Week Tiger Shark 737, but I selected the wrong runway. Instead, I caught Southwest's Classic gold 737.

I visited Sky Harbor in the afternoon of June 30 to photograph the return of Honeywell's 757 fro a visit to southeast Asia. Asia Pacific Airines' 727 was scheduled to arrive at Sky Harobr from Kansas City soon after, but it was delayed until midnight. I visited Sky Harbor in the afternoon of July 1, 2018 to photograph the departure of Asia Pacific Airines' 727 for Honolulu. It was scheduled to take-off at 2:00. I waited at the airport for four hours before heading home. It changed its destination to Los Angeles and took off at 6:30. It was almost to San Bernardino when it diverted back to Phoenix. On July 2, it filed a flight plan to return to Kansas City, scheduled to depart at 9:00 AM. I waited in the heat until it took off at 10:11 and finally got my pictures of it.

The wing span of the 777-200LR is 12 feet 8 inches longer than the standard 777-200. It iw equipped with 115,000 pound thrust engines instead of 77,200 pound thrust engines. Its maximum take-off weight is 221-800 pounds greater. Its range is 3,315 nautical miles greater.

Southwest's Louisiana One 737 took off at 8:15 on the morning of May 25. This time of year the morning sum shines on the north side of the airplanes taking off, so I photographed the take-off from the top deck of the terminal 4 parking structure. I returned to Sky Harbor in the afternoon and phtographed American's PSA heritage and TWA heritage, Southwest's Lone Star One, a Condor 767, a British Airways 747, and an Air Transport International 767.

Honeywell's Convair 580, N580HW made a round rtip flight from Phoenix Sky Harbor to Albuquqerque on May 22, 2018. A parade of Canadair Regional Jets preceded its arrival. In the late afternoon, I returned to the airport to photograph Southwest's Louisiana One 737.

Condor Airlines began service between Frankfurt and Phoenix on Friday, May 18, 2018. I visited Sky Harbor in the late afternoon on May 21, 2018 to photograph a Condor 767 and British Airways 747 that arrived twelve minutes apart.

I visited Sky Harbor in the late afternoon on May 15, 2018 to photograph a Mexican Convair 640 freighter. I also caught a variety of other freighters. I visited Sky Harbor on May 16, 2018 to photograph Alaska Airlines' Salmon-thirty-Salmon II. The pattern was reversed as I drove to the airport for the landing, so I had to return and photograph the take-off. I also photographed several 737s and Airbuses. I returned to the airport later in the afternoon to photograph the Mexican Convair 640 freighter again. I visited Sky Harbor on May 17, 2018 to photograph United's Eco Skies. I also caught an Airbus and some 737s.

Luke Days Static Displays

I photographed the static displays at 2018 Luke Days on Sunday,March 18. There were Lockheed-Martin F-35A Lightning IIs from the Italian Air Force, Royal Norwegian Air Force, and Japanese Air Self Defense Force. There were General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcons from the Taiwanese Air force and the Singapore Air Force. Large airplanes included a Boeing KC-135R Stratotanker, Boeing P-8 Poseidon, Boeing C-17A Globemaster III, and Lockheed C-5M Galaxy. Warbirds included two North American P-51 Mustangs, a North American B-25 Mitchell, and a Douglas C-47 Skytrain. There were eight replicas of Japanese airplanes of the types that ttacked Pearl Harbor. The day was sunny and cool.

Naval Air Facility el Centro arrivals

On Wednesday, October 24, 2012, I participated in a photocall at Naval Air Facility el Centro. Before we were admitted to the base, I photographed T-45C Goshawks and F/A-18 Hornets on the approach to Runway 26. The day was sunny and quite warm. At the time I concentrated on processing the close up pictures from the side of the runway. I finally decided to process these arrival pictures.

A popular feature at airshows is the Air Force Heritage Flight, in which modern jets fly in formation with vintage warbirds. Each year the participants in the Heritage Flight practice their formation flying before the airshow season at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base.

While the north runway is being refurbished, the primary landing runway is 25 Left/7 Right, which provides very good veiws of the airplanes on approach from the south bank of the Salt River.

I went to Sky Harbor on January 8 to photograph the arival of Honeywell's Sabreliner and a United 737 in Continental heritage livery. I also caught a Delta A330.
