I was in Arizona for over a week touring the airports in the vicinity of Phoenix. I visited Sky Harbor International Airport, Williams-Gateway Airport, Luke Air Force Base, Goodyear Airport, and Falcon Field.

On Tuesday, April 11, I checked out the photography locations at Sky Harbor International Airport. I started on the upper deck of the terminal 2 parking garage.

Honeywell's Boeing 720-051B, N720H is used as an engine testbed. A fifth jet engine is mounted on the right side of the forward fuselage. A mobile work shelter encloses the area around the extra engine.

Honeywell's Boeing 720-051B, N720H wears construction number 18384. It first flew on September 15, 1961. TWA leased it as N794TW beginning on August 27, 1961. Northwest leased it as N733US on October 26, 1962 and then bought it on July 1, 1968. Maersk Air registered it as OY-APZ in January 1973 and leased it to Nigeria Airways in December 1974. TEA leased it as OO-TYA on November 6, 1979 and returned it to Maersk on January 19, 1980. Conair acquired it on February 16, 1981. Allied Signal registered it as N720GT on November 24, 1987 and mounted an engine test pylon on the right side of the forward fuselage. The 720-051B Engine Testbed was registered as N720H in February 2000. Honeywell International acquired it and installed a Honeywell AS977 engine. Honeywell conducts frequent engine test flights with it.

Sun Country Boeing 737-8Q8, N801SY was delivered on February 3, 2001. Its construction number is 30332.

US Airways Airbus A319-132, N819AW was delivered to America West on December 21, 2000 and transferred to US Airways on January 31, 2006. Its construction number is 1395.

I moved over to the top deck of the terminal 3 parking garage. It has good views of the departures from Runway 07L, except the sun is behind the airplanes. The light would be better in the early morning or late evening.

Southwest Boeing 737-7H4, N445WN was delivered on March 31, 2004. Its construction number is 32462.

Ted Airbus A320-232, N498UA was delivered to United Airlines on March 21, 2002 and transferred to Ted on March 13, 2004. Its construction number is 1702.

American McDonnell-Douglas MD-82, N7508 was delivered on December 11, 1985. Its construction number is 49802.

The original control tower has been moved to the south side of the airport.

America West Airbus A320-231, N625AW was delivered to Braniff as N905BN on September 20, 1989 and transferred to America West on September 28, 1990. Its construction number is 064.

Sky Harbor is home to the 161st Air Refueling Wing of the Arizona Air National Guard.

America West Express Canadair CRJ-900ER, N909FJ was delivered on November 20, 2003. Its construction number is 15009.

Midwest Express McDonnell-Douglas MD-82, N810ME was delivered to TOA Domestic Airlines as JA8470 on February 25, 1982. Midwest Express acquired it on April 24, 1998. Its construction number is 48072.

Southwest Boeing 737-7H4, N229WN was delivered on January 30, 2006. Its construction number is 32498.

Alaska Boeing 737-790, N615AS was delivered on February 1, 2000. Its construction number is 30344.

Continental Boeing 737-824 N36272 was delivered on November 15, 2001. Its construction number is 31590.

Great Lakes Beech 1900D, N154GL was built in 1995. Its construction number is UE-154.

United Airbus A319-131, N850UA was delivered on February 8, 2002. Its construction number is 1653.

Hawaiian Airlines Boeing 767-3G5, N586HA was delivered to LTU Sud as D-AMUN on June 9, 1989. Hawaiian Airlines acquired it on July 30, 2002. Its construction number is 24259.

American McDonnell-Douglas MD-82, N492AA was delivered on February 15, 1989. Its construction number is 46730.

America West Boeing 757-2S7, N902AW Teamwork Coast to Coast was delivered to Republic Airlines as N602RC on December 6, 1985 and transferred to Northwest Airlines on October 1, 1986. America West acquired it on June 4, 1987. Its construction number is 23322.

Old Tower Road has good views of the arrivals on Runway 07R, departures from 25R, and the airplanes parked in the cargo area.

Lowa Ltd. Boeing 707-330B, N88ZL was delivered to Lufthansa as D-ABUF on December 28, 1965. It was leased to Condor for three years. Aerommer/Lowa registered it as N5381X on July 3, 1984. It received its current registration in March 1985. Its construction number is 18928.

The south bank of the Salt River at the end of 40th Street has an excellent view of the departures from Runway 07L. Airport security will call the Phoenix Police to roust photographers that they see taking pictures from this location.

America West Boeing 757-2S7, N904AW Diamondbacks was delivered to Republic Airlines as N604RC on May 19, 1986 and transferred to Northwest Airlines on October 1, 1986. America West acquired it on May 4, 1987. Its construction number is 23566.

Sky King Boeing 737-291, N977UA was delivered to Frontier Airlines as N7391F on May 12, 1978. United Airlines acquired it as N977UA in October 1985 and retired it to Victorville on November 13, 2001. Sky King acquired it on October 16, 2003. Its construction number is 21508.
