Douglas DC-3, N101KC Rose of Dream Flight
carried passengers on aerial tours from Hawthorne Airport
on Friday, July 9. It was built as a DC-3 in 1943 and served the
Army Air Force as a C-53D. It is a veteran of the D-Day invasion of Europe on
June 6, 1944. Its Douglas construction number is 11639.
Dream Flight's DC-3,
N101KC Rose taxis to the ramp shortly before 10:00 in the morning to pick up
the first load of passengers of the day.

has six rows of four seats. The third row faces to the rear.

to the right to avoid a light plane.
The Queen Mary and the
geodesic dome that used to house the Spruce Goose appeared under Rose' left wing.
Rose made a right 270 degree
turn and headed back toward Terminal Island.
Rose crossed over the
Los Angeles River.
Traffic was light on the 405 freeway.
Rose flew past the
golf course at Holly Park as it appoached the airport.
Rose passed above
Crenshaw Boulevard on the descent to the runway.
Nat's Restaurant flashed by
just before Rose' main wheels touched down 22 minutes after take-off.
Rose waits to take
a second load of passengers aloft.

engine belches a puff of smoke as it starts up.
Rose' pilots
check the engine instruments before starting to taxi.
Rose taxis to the
runway for the second revenue flight.

the far end of the runway.
Rose lifts off
