Convair 580 N580HH at NAS Pt Mugu, February 25, 2008 |
Raytheon's Convair 580 N580HH arrived at Naval Air Station Pt Mugu From Tucson, Arizona on February 25, 2008.
This Convair's nose looks different in every picture that I have seen of it.
This Convair's construction number is 500. It was built for REAL SA as Cv-440 PP-YRM in 1958, but was not taken up. After a period of storage, it was delivered to General Motors as N5122 on May 7, 1960 and was converted to a Cv-580 with turbo-prop engines later in 1960. Reamco Incorporated bought it on August 17, 1977 and registered it as N580R on October 18, 1977. It flew as The Good Ship Happy House. Buchner Aviation bought it on August 10, 1979 and sold it to Personal Way Aviation the same day. It was registered as N580HH on March 8, 1980. Texas Instruments bought it in March 1981. Raytheon acquired it on December 14, 2000.
It has been over a decade since I last photographed a Convair twin in flight.
