The 2002 Pt Mugu airshow was held
on April 19 and 20. It featured the aircraft of the
Southern California Wing of the Commemorative Air Force and
Air Test and Evaluation Squadron VX-30.
Eight U. S. Air Force
Thunderbirds F-16s are lined up with great precision.
McDonnell-Douglas F-15C Eagle, 82-029 of the 58th Fighter Squadron Gorillas
of the 33rd Fighter Wing based at Eglin Air Force Base. Just behind 82-029 is
a McDonnell-Douglas F-15C Eagle of the 60th Fighter Squadron Fighting Crows.
Grumman F8F-2 Bearcat N7825C pulls up out of formation with Hawker Sea Fury Mk2 N260X,
and Grumman F6F-5 Hellcat N1978Z in the missing man maneuver.

The airshow was brought to a sudden and tragic
conclusion when QF-4S+ Phantom II, 155749, VX-30 #124 tumbled out of control
and crashed. The pictures of the crash are on a separate
