I am a retired Flight Engineer on the Lockheed
Constellation. I have been in almost but not all the models
including the Queen of the air, the Starliner 1649A. Have sat in
the F/E seat on the Columbine but but not operated it. I was in
the private sector of the Constellation and am amoung the few
Professional Engineers that cut his teeth on Connies. I have
question I am unable to answer. What was the reason for Lockheed
going from Hamilton Standard Props on the P-38 to the nightmare
killers Curtis Electrics? Was it due to the counter rotating
engines?

What a great job I travel past your location, at least
eoweek, and now know what's going on. I am the Aerospace
education officer or chairman or vp at Vandenberg Air Force
Association, and the Civil Air Patrol, A E for the Central Cost
of CA, and have been for the past 6 years, (also Safety Guy as by
my profession, we wil not go into that for it is groud safety for
small business in CA, the ole SB 198, programs be a manager go to
jail laws, my doctorate in 96.). I have done alot of aviation
from the Air Muesum in Chino, to Santa Maria, VAFB, OSAN Korea,
not to mention over 1,000 model aircraft not all built yet for my
retirement in just a couple of years. I do these for stress
relief from my jobs. Thanks for your pictures, I was on the
flight line at Vandenberg AFB in 1966-67, when the C133A brought
in missles, etc. for launching. I was a supply guy there, 4 yr.
inlistment, draft dodger from the Army, much better in the Air
Force. I am a CAP Major, now.... really enjoy the CAP we have a
squadron at your air port, check it out sometime they meet on
Tues.or Wed night, in the building with the old 3 bladed prop
from a corsair on a monument in the front of it. Again thanks for
your information If possible with your permission to copy the C
133A for my own collection, no model is made of this very
different aircraft. John thanks.

RE: Lockheed R6V Constitution - 1949 - 86163 & 86164 I
was stationed at Alameda NAS during 1949 and knew the Navy
Photographer Yarbrough who gave me an 8X10 picture of one of the
Constitutions taking off with JATO assist. The exhaust from the
JATO obscures the number so I am not sure whether it is the first
or second plane nor the exact date the picture was taken.

Nice web page. What in the hell are active duty personnel
flying drones. I do know they need to be ferried from location to
location, but they ought not be in air shows. Those jets are
decrepit, not maintained, and marginally qualified for human
operation. They are risky under normal circumstances of operation
as drones.

Your pictures are wonderful! The Pt. Mugu pictures (F-4
Crash) are especially impressive. I was there and I saw far less
than your pictures reveal.

A friend sent me this link. Very interesting site.I am
retired AF and a plane lover since my first ride in a DC-4 in
1962 from Milwaukee, WI to Washington, DC. One question, tho. I
was under the impression that a QF-4 was a remotely piloted drone
used for target practice? I didn't know it could be flown by
humans. Roger

A Retired Delta pilot sent me this link today. As I was
reading the information on the title page I thought I would ask
for permission to use some of you photo's in my class. I am an
Advanced Composite Repair instructor for the USAF here at NAS
Pensacola. (yes a airfroce det on a navy base) go figure. Many
times just a new fresh photo on one of our powerpoint
presentations is a good attention getter. Thank you either way. I
really enjoyed your web page. RBColbert@Juno.com Rick

Enjoyed your site. My wife and I just got back from two and
half days on the USS Constellation. My son, LCDR USN did his
refresher CQ's on Connie, and since I had made a combat cruise on
the same ship flying Vigilantes [RA5C's] in 67'-68', we were
invited out to observe. They gave us the Captain's in-port cabin
and distiguished visitor treatment and we had a great time.
Vikings, Prowlers, Hornets and Super Hornets kept the ship busy
car-qualing. We departed the ship yesterday on the COD, a
Grayhound, off the cat. It was a real kick. Harrison M Moore,

Brian, You do a great job re your GSM web page. I have a
soft spot in my head for the Goleta area for the Santa Barbara
Municiple Airport was the scene of one of my earlier student
cross-country landings back on April 17, 1948. A while back I'm
afraid. Keep up the good work. For sure I'll drop in often. CAB

This is one of my favorite sites on the net. I visit at
least once a week - I'm addicted. I'm a huge aviation enthusiast;
and I also love trains and wildlife. I've been visiting for at
least a couple of years now and it all started when I was looking
for pictures of the Convair XC-99. I scored - big time!

It's very nice to see that aeromodel kits have a very
interesting museum that preserve the best art of making kits.
Here, in Indonesia we don't have such a think so far. Maybe
someday we'll have museum like this. Be the best.
