November 5, 1999, Red Flag 00-1, Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada

I spent the morning of Friday, November 5 parked off the departure end of Runway 03 Right at Nellis Air Force Base to get photos of the participants of the Red Flag Exercise. This exercise marked the introduction of German MiG-29 Fulcrums to Red Flag.

The space shuttle orbiter Columbia, OV-102 was delivered to Air Force Plant 42 at Palmdale, California on Saturday, September 25 on the back of a Boeing 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (SCA).

Air Force Plant 42 at Palmdale hosts a number of aircraft and spacecraft manufacturing and modification operations. It also serves as a convenient location for test aircraft from Edwards Air Force Base and other Southern California airfields to shoot touch-and-go landings.

July 30, 1990: Air Tankers over Santa Barbara County

A plume of dense smoke erupted over the Santa Ynez Mountains on the afternoon of July 30, 1990. Several large air tankers fought the fire in the Santa Ynez Valley from the Goleta Tanker Station.

October 31, 1981: Beale Air Force Base Open House

I attended the Beale Air Force Base Open House with my father, Richard Lockett, on October 31, 1981. The static displays featured the Lockheed SR-71A Blckbird, Boeing KC-97L Stratofreighter, and McDonnell-Douglas KC-10A Extender. Flying demonstrations included a Lockheed SR-71A Blckbird, Lockheed U-2R, and Boeing KC-135Q Stratotanker.

May 31, 1980: Beale Air Force Base Open House

I attended the Beale Air Force Base Open House with my father, Richard Lockett, on May 31, 1980. The displays featured the Lockheed SR-71A Blckbird, Lockheed U-2R, Boeing B-52D Stratofortress, Lockheed F-104G Starfighter, Repulic F-105G Thunderchief, Fairchild-Republic A-10A Thunderbolt II, McDonnell-Douglas F-15B Eagle, and General Dynamics F-16A Faighting Falcon. Vintage aircraft included a Douglas B-23 Dragon, Lockheed P-38M Lightning, North American P-51H Mustang, Grumman TBM Avenger, Hawker Sea Fury, Vought F4U Corsair, Grumman F7F-3 Tigercat, and Douglas C-47 Skytrain. Flying demonstratinos included a Lockheed SR-71A Blckbird and Lockheed U-2R.

1977 - 1983: Space Shuttle Enterprise, OV-101 Approach and Landing Tests and Open House Appearances

Here is a retrospective of the career of the first Space Shuttle, OV-101 Enterprise, which was used for five test flights of the last phases of the approach to landing at Edwards Air Force Base in 1977. It was often displayed at the Edwards Air Force Base open house in the early 1980s.

November 16, 1975: Edwards Air Force Base Open House

I attended the Edwards Air Force Base Open House with my father, Richard Lockett, on November 16, 1975. The displays featured a Boeing NKC-135A Stratotanker, Boeing T-4A, the Boeing NB-52B Stratofortress, the Martin Marrietta X-24B lifting body, and pre-production models of the McDonnell-Douglas F-15 Eagle, General Dynamics YF-16, and Northrop YF-17.

March 31, 1974: Pima County Air Musem

I toured the Pima County Air Musem on March 31, 1974 before its official opening.

November 12, 1973: Davis-Monthan Air Force Base

My father, Richard Lockett, and I were escorted on a tour of the Military Aircraft Storage and Disposition Center (MASDC) at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base on November 12, 1973. Before the tour we visited the scrap yards south f the base. After the tour we took pictures of airplnaes in the landing pattern.

May 16, 1973: Edwards Air Force Open House Display

I attended the Edwards Air Force Base Open House with my father, Richard Lockett, on May 16, 1973. The displays featured threee heavyweight lifting bodies, and pre-production models of the McDonnell-Douglas F-15 Eagle and Fairchild-Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II.

May 17, 1972: Edwards Air Force Base Open House

I attended the Edwards Air Force Base Open House with my father, Richard Lockett, on May 17, 1972 which marked the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Air Force. The displays featured the HL-10 lifting body, and pre-production models of the Northrop YA-9A and Fairchild-Republic YA-10A Thunderbolt II.

April 24, 1972: MASDC and Tucson International Airport

I toured the Military Aircraft Storage and Disposition Center (MASDC) at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base with my father, Richard Lockett, on April 24, 1972. I then photogaphed an Arizona Air National Guard North American F-100F Super Sabre and a Continental Airlines McDonnell Douglas DC-10 at Tucson International Airport.

April 19, 1972: Luke AFB Airshow

I attended the Luke AFB Airshow with my father, Richard Lockett, on April 19, 1972. The static displays featured a Douglas AC-47 Puff. Flying demonstrations included The USAF Thunderbirds flying McDonnell-Douglas F-4C Phantom IIs.

May 19, 1970: Edwards Air Force Base Open House

I attended the Edwards Air Force Base Open House with my father, Richard Lockett, on May 19, 1970. The displays featured the Martin Marietta X-24A lifting body, the Boeing NB-52B Stratofortress that had launched the X-15s, a Lockheed YF-12A Blckbird, a General Dynamics F-111A, a Bell AH-1G Cobra, and a Lockheed C-5A Galaxy. Flying demonstratinos included a Lockheed C-130E Hercules cargo drop, a Boeing B-52C Stratofortress, a Lockheed YF-12A Blckbird, a Lockheed U-2 and a Lockheed C-5A Galaxy.

January 1970: Luke Air Force Base Airshow

I attended the Luke Air Force Base Airshow with my father, Richard Lockett, on February 5, 1966. Back then the the Thunderbirds were flying McDonnell-Douglas F-4 Phantom IIs. These are pictures that were taken by my father at the airshow.
