Air Traffic Over Goleta 2006

The skies over Goleta are plied by all sorts of aircraft going to and from the Santa Barbara Airport. They often come close enough to my home for me to snap pictures of them from the back yard.

10 Tanker Air Carrier McDonnell-Douglas DC-10-10, N450AX 10 Tanker Air Carrier was sighted flying westbound over Goleta at an altitude of 12,000 feet at 7:32 A.M. on November 4, 2005. This DC-10-10 carries McDonnell-Douglas construction number 46942. It was originally delivered to National Airlines as N69NA Betty on June 25, 1975. When National airlines merged with Pan Am on January 7, 1980, it was renamed Clipper Starlight. American Airlines bought it on November 5, 1983 and re-registered it as N161AA in April 1984. First Security Bank of Utah bought it in September 1984 and leased it back to American airlines. It was withdrawn from use and stored at Marana Airpark on April 11, 1994. Hawaiian airlines leased it on January 9, 1996. Omni Air International bought it on November 8, 1997. It was retired at Tulsa, Oklahoma on November 9, 1997. It arrived at Mojave on October 1, 2002. BC Aircraft Leasing of Las Vegas, Nevada acquired it on March 17, 2004. It demonstrated its water drop capabilities at the Paris Airshow in June.

10 Tanker Air Carrier McDonnell-Douglas DC-10-10, N450AX 10 Tanker Air Carrier was sighted flying westbound over Goleta at an altitude of 27,000 feet at 8:48 A.M. on December 8, 2005.

North American T-28A Trojan, N81643, January 29, 2006. It served the Air Force as 49-1643. Its construction number is 159-155. Norman B. Dennis Jr. of Brookneal, California registered it as N9674C in 1966. Robert Eggmann of Belleville, Illinois registered it as N28RE in 1978. Edward A. Buerckholtz of Chesterfield, Missouri registered it as N81643 in 1985. It has been registered to Round Power Limited of Reno, Nevada since March 4, 2004. Its owner, Gregg Weitzman, recently had it restored in the colors of a T-28A that was flown by the Air Force Test Pilot School at Edwards Air Force Base in the 1950s. It is based at the Santa Barbara Airport.

It is restored in the colors of the 325th Fighter Group of the 15th Air Force, which was based in Lesina, Italy. 00 was the mount of Lt. Colonel Ernest H. Beverly, 325th Group Commander from September 11, 1944 to March 2, 1945. It has been registered to Terence Cunningham since April 7, 2004.
