A Minuteman III missile was launched on a suborbital trajectory toward Kwajalein Atoll from Vandenberg Air Force Base at 1:01 A.M. on Wednesday, April 2, 2008.
197-second exposure of the ascent of the Minuteman III. ISO 200. Aperture f4
30-second exposure of the exhaust cloud left by the Minuteman III taken six minutes after launch. ISO 1600. Aperture f3.5
122-second exposure of the exhaust cloud left by the Minuteman III taken eight minutes after launch. The lights of an airplane may be seen at lower left over the W-532 Warning Area. ISO 1600. Aperture f4
Composite of the image above and the launch photo shows that the exhaust cloud was emitted late in the ascent of the missile.
