Transit of Mercury


The planet Mercury passed directly between the Earth and the Sun on Wednesday, November 8. First contact occurred at 11:12 AM PST. Final contact occurred at 4:10 PM PST.

Transit of Mercury Thirty exposures taken at ten minute intervals were used to assemble this composite of the transit of Mercury. The air was relatively still in the morning, but increasing air turbulence made the images of Mercury blurrier over the afternoon.

Transit of Mercury 1:31 PM PST, Mercury is about half way across the Sun.
