I recently attended the second annual International Symposium of Aviation Photographers. It was hosted by Boeing Helicopter of Mesa, Arizona. The attending photographers were taken to a remote location in the foothills of the Mazatzal Mountains where an AH-64D Longbow Apache pilot was being checked out in the type.

AH-64D Longbow Apache, 00-5231 Part of his check ride was performed in front of the assembled photographers. It was later estimated that we shot about 7,000 frames during the demonstration.

AH-64D Longbow Apache, 00-5231 This AH-64D Longbow Apache currently carries serial 00-5231. It is a remanufactured AH-64A.

I grew up in Phoenix, so I have traveled extensively in the area. I drove up the dirt road that you can see behind the Apache over the Four Peaks Range last November.
